The Civic and Community Engagement Office is committed to providing meaningful community-based curricular and co-curricular experiences for SUNY Buffalo State students. Through your participation in one or more experiences, the Civic and Community Engagement Office hopes to inspire a life of active citizenship and social responsibility, while giving you the tools to learn how to become active and involved in any community you call home.
Students were interviewed for a YouTube live video about their civic and community engagement experiences:
Service-learning is education in action! Service-learning courses give you the opportunity to take what you've learned in the classroom and apply it to make a difference in the community. Please visit service-learning for further information.
The office can connect you with volunteer events and opportunities in the Buffalo community. Use your skills, heart, and time to make an impact while building meaningful relationships and connections! Please visit volunteer for further information.
Spend your winter, spring, or summer break engaging in a week of service, learning about community and social issues, and gaining leadership skills. Please visit Alternative Break for further information.
Apply for the Certificate of Recognition for Community Engagement to demonstrate to SUNY Buffalo State and future employers or graduate schools your commitment as a student to service and the community. Please visit Certificate of Recognition for Community Engagement for further information.
Each year the office recognizes students, faculty, and community partners who have been a source of inspiration and service. Students, faculty, and community partners have the opportunity to submit a nomination to have someone they know receive these distinctive awards. The nomination period opens in November and runs until April. Please visit Celebration of Community Engagement for further information.
