We encourage all Bengals to support the community that is served by the Jefferson Avenue Tops, as their access to fresh food may be severely limited in the coming days.
If you would like to help, we have compiled a list of organizations, including community fridges, that are directly supporting the neighborhood and families in need.
The Civic and Community Engagement Office has established a service challenge to commemorate Buffalo State’s 150th anniversary. We hope you will join us in celebration of the institution’s mission, identity, and commitment to being an urban-engaged campus!
Individual students, faculty, and staff who complete 150 hours of community service between May 17, 2021 - August 31, 2022 will be recognized for their civic and community-engaged efforts. Students, faculty, or staff who meet the criteria will receive a special 150th Anniversary Service Challenge Certificate of Completion and commemorative pin. Anyone who meets these requirements before April 11, 2022 will be included in the May 2022 Celebration of Community Engagement. We will continue to accept hours and applications through August 31, 2022 and send award certificates by mail.
Complete at least 150 total hours of community service as an individual between May 17, 2021 - August 31, 2022.
Students may count individual hours and hours affiliated with a Buffalo State College student organization. We encourage you to volunteer in groups, however, please only report your own service hours. Students can also count hours from service-learning courses, volunteer experiences, and/or community activism. Student teaching, classroom observation, paid experiences, student organization leadership responsibilities and program-required internships do not count toward this recognition.
Faculty and Staff are encouraged to share information about volunteer experiences, community activism, and time invested in community leadership positions such as boards or advisory groups with community partners.
Register by filling out the 150th Service Challenge Registration Form. Once you are registered, you will be provided with additional resources to support you in this challenge! When you complete 150 hours, fill out the 150th Service Challenge Application Form and submit it to our office.
Our office will review all applications and send confirmation once the award is approved. If we have any questions regarding reported service hours, you may be contacted. In some cases, we may reach out to the community partner contact for verification.
Students, faculty, and staff wishing to be recognized at the May 2022 Celebration of Community Engagement must complete 150 hours of community service and finalize all documentation by April 11, 2022. Don’t worry! We will send out reminders in advance.
Hours will continue to be accepted through August 31, 2022 and anyone who completes the challenge by then will receive a certificate by mail in September.
Student hours reported for the 150th Anniversary Challenge can also be applied to the President’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Engagement.
If you are not confident about how to participate or have questions about the process, please contact the Civic and Community Engagement Office. We are excited to see the impact our Bengals can make during the 150th anniversary celebration!
