The President's Certificate of Recognition for Community Engagement is a distinction that only SUNY Buffalo State undergraduate and graduate students can receive, awarded by Buffalo State President, Dr. Katherine Conway-Turner. This honor is given to students who have had extended engagement with the community and represent their commitment to social responsibility and community participation, while meeting the demands of course load and work obligations.
There are three levels of recognition that students can apply for:
At least 200 hours of community service
At least 400 hours of community service
At least 1,000 hours of community service
The application process for the 2022-2023 President's Certificate of Recognition for Community Engagement will open during the Fall 2022 semester. We look forward to reviewing your application!

Use the application as a way to track your community service hours and involvement.
Any SUNY Buffalo State student who has engaged in at least 200 hours of community engagement as a college student can apply. Transfer students are permitted to use community service completed at a former college or university. The total number of community service hours can be as a result of service-learning courses, volunteering with a group or as an individual, community activism, participation in Bengals Dare to Care Day or Alternative Break, and/or a similar combination of activities.
Student teaching, classroom observation, paid experiences, and program-required internships do not count towards the President's Certificate of Recognition for Community Engagement.
Students who believe they meet one of the levels of recognition (200, 400, or 1,000 hours) must complete and submit the online application. The deadline is TBD, however, it will be communicated during the fall semester. Typically, applications are due in the month of April.

Upon submission of the application, the Civic and Community Engagement Office will verify service hours with the listed supervisor. All applicants will be notified by the office and those who receive this distinction will be awarded at the Celebration of Community Engagement.
