The Buffalo State College Senate edited the Supplemental Policy on Scholarship Encompassing Applied Research and Scholarship of Teaching, and Community-Engaged Research and Scholarship in Spring 2020 to articulate support for Buffalo State faculty's increasing commitment to community-engaged research and scholarship in the promotion and tenure process. The policy was updated through collaboration between the President's Civic Action Plan Implementation Committee and the Senate Instruction and Research Committee.
The resource was originally compiled by Gary Homana in August 2007 and was updated in May 2012 by Andrew Furco. When Dr. Furco came to SUNY Buffalo State in January 2013, he gave this information to the service-learning faculty who attended the "Service-Learning: Reinvigorated" workshop.
Buffalo Commons is a repository for action-oriented research created and maintained by Partnership for the Public Good and Cornell in Buffalo. This hub of knowledge, ideas, and tools for citizen engagement is a modern expression of a democratic ideal — a shared resource in which every member of the community has an equal interest. Buffalo State faculty can include their own research in the Commons, and can connect with community organizations looking for research to be conducted to support their efforts.
