Community Partner Handbook
SUNY Buffalo State hopes to create long-term, meaningful partnerships with community agencies through service-learning, volunteering, and other experiential learning opportunities for students. It is hoped that this guide to service-learning will be helpful to community organizations, agencies, or schools that are new to partnerships with SUNY Buffalo State. The Community Partner Handbook provides an introductory orientation to our program and services.
Civic and Community Engagement Office Library
Our community partners, faculty, and students have unlimited access to our library resources. Whether it is a book, journal, or magazine, the Civic and Community Engagement Office is always updating our shelves with the newest research, data, and trends related to service-learning, volunteerism, and community engagement. Feel free to peruse the list and stop by the office in South Wing 130 to take out a resource.
Volunteer and Community Organizations Journals
Community Development Journal - The Journal is a professional peer review journal that features current topics and insightful analysis on a variety of topics relevant to community developers. The Journal recently increased its publication rate to become a quarterly journal. Editors welcome articles and book reviews from both members and non-members.
The International Journal of Volunteer Administration - The Journal is a refereed publication of the Department of 4-H Youth Development and Family & Consumer Sciences at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, USA. The IJOVA seeks to provide for an exchange of ideas and sharing of knowledge and insights about volunteerism, and volunteer management and administration, both in North America and internationally.
Journal of Community Practice - The Journal of Community Practice is an interdisciplinary journal grounded in social work. It is designed to provide a forum for community practice, including community organizing, planning, social administration, organizational development, community development, and social change. The journal contributes to the advancement of knowledge related to numerous disciplines, including social work and the social sciences, urban planning, social and economic development, community organizing, policy analysis, urban and rural sociology, community health, public administration, and nonprofit management.
Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly - Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ), peer-reviewed and published bi-monthly, is an international, interdisciplinary journal for nonprofit sector research dedicated to enhancing our knowledge of nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, and volunteerism by providing cutting-edge research, discussion, and analysis of the field. NVSQ provides a forum for researchers from around the world to publish timely articles from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
Partnership Matters - Knowing that it is impossible to keep up with the many conferences, grants, programs and publications that might strengthen community-campus efforts, the goal for Partnership Matters is to provide members with easy access to such information in a succinct, readable format. The newsletter is sent out via email every two weeks.
Voluntas: International Journal of Voluntary and Nonprofit Organizations - The official journal of the International Society for Third-Sector Research, Voluntas is an interdisciplinary international journal that aims to be the central forum for worldwide research in the area between the state, market, and household sectors. Articles are published in English but abstracts in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic are included. The journal combines full-length articles with shorter research notes (reflecting the latest developments in the field) and book reviews.
